Scarlet macaws nearly went extinct in Costa Rica, but thanks to conservation efforts there are now small populations living in various spots in the country. We see them regularly near our house thanks to the scarlet macaw program at Gaya Hotel and Reserve here in Manuel Antonio. I took this image at the Rescate Wildlife Rescue Center in San Jose where the birds don’t live in cages but are well taken care of.
